چکیده

In this paper we study relationships between CNF representations of a given Boolean function f and certain sets of implicates of f . We introduce two definitions of sets of implicates which are both based on the properties of resolution. The first type of sets, called exclusive sets of implicates, is shown to have a functional property useful for decompositions. The second type of sets, called essential sets of implicates, is proved to posses an orthogonality property, which implies that every CNF representation and every essential set must intersect. The latter property then leads to an interesting conjecture, which we prove to be true for some special subclasses of Horn Boolean functions. Boolean functions with a simple certificate for CNF complexity

In this paper we study relationships between CNF representations of a given Boolean function f and essential sets of implicates of f . It is known that every CNF representation and every essential set must intersect. Therefore the maximum number of pairwise disjoint essential sets of f provides a lower bound on the size of any CNF representation of f . We are interested in functions, for which ...

New Results for Sets of Boolean Functions

Traditionally Sum-Of-Products (SOPs) have been studied as expressions of Boolean functions. It has been shown by Sasao in [7] that Exclusive-or-Sum-Of-Products (ESOPs) are more compact representations of Boolean functions than SOPs. The problem to identify an exact minimal ESOP of a Boolean function is despite of some partial results still unsolved. Our new results rely on recently detected pro...

Propagation Models and Fitting Them for the Boolean Random Sets

In order to study the relationship between random Boolean sets and some explanatory variables, this paper introduces a Propagation model. This model can be applied when corresponding Poisson process of the Boolean model is related to explanatory variables and the random grains are not affected by these variables. An approximation for the likelihood is used to find pseudo-maximum likelihood esti...

ON THE FUZZY SET THEORY AND AGGREGATION FUNCTIONS: HISTORY AND SOME RECENT ADVANCES

Several fuzzy connectives, including those proposed by Lotfi Zadeh, can be seen as linear extensions of the Boolean connectives from the scale ${0,1}$ into the scale $[0,1]$. We discuss these extensions, in particular, we focus on the dualities arising from the Boolean dualities. These dualities allow to transfer the results from some particular class of extended Boolean functions, e.g., from c...

INTERSECTION OF ESSENTIAL IDEALS IN THE RING OF REAL-VALUED CONTINUOUS FUNCTIONS ON A FRAME

A frame $L$ is called {it coz-dense} if $Sigma_{coz(alpha)}=emptyset$ implies $alpha=mathbf 0$. Let $mathcal RL$ be the ring of real-valued continuous functions on a coz-dense and completely regular frame $L$. We present a description of the socle of the ring $mathcal RL$ based on minimal ideals of $mathcal RL$ and zero sets in pointfree topology. We show that socle of $mathcal RL$ is an essent...
